On the 10th March 2010 the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs announced in Seanad Éireann that a review of Caighdeán Oifigiúil na Gaeilge would be carried out, and that a revised edition would be completed by June 2011. The Department's Central Translation Unit, which was established in accordance with the government decision of November 2008, is responsible for promoting the review process.
A Steering Committee has been appointed by the Minister to conduct the review and the Committee members are listed below.
The Committee will announce bimonthly public consultation periods with the public regarding recommended amendments to An Caighdeán Oifigiúil.
The first list of recommendations for the first consultation period can be found on this webpage. That particular consultation session is now closed..
The second consultation period is now open and the second list of recommendations is available below. The closing date for all submissions relating to the second consultation period is Friday, the 27 August, 2010.

Further information regarding the process:
• Subcommittees will be appointed by the Steering Committee in order to make recommendations on certain areas of An Caighdeán Oifigiúil
• The Steering Committee will then discuss those recommendations and they will be included in the public consultation which will last for one month. To register for this process please e-mail aco@pobail.ie
• The Committee will discuss the recommendations again in the context of the submissions from the public, and a final decision regarding the recommendations will then be made.
Please note that submissions for this consultation are subject to the Freedom of Information Acts. If the Department receives a request under the Acts, all those who have made submissions will be consulted before any decision is made.
