FOI Section 16 Reference Book - Rules, Procedures and Practices

Under Section 16 of the Freedom of Information Act, 1997 and 2003, all public bodies, including Government Departments, are required to publish and make available to the public:

"(a) The rules, procedures, practices, guidelines and interpretations used by the body, and an index of any precedents kept by the body, for the purposes of decisions, determinations or recommendations under or for the purposes of any enactment or scheme administered by the body with respect to rights, privileges, obligations, penalties or other sanctions to which members of the public are or may be entitled or subject under the enactment or scheme, and

 (b)  Appropriate information in relation to the manner or intended manner of administration of any such enactment or scheme."

This Reference Book details the rules, practices etc. of the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs in relation to any enactments or schemes to which Section 16 of the Act applies.

This Reference Book is organised under headings corresponding to the functions of the Department.  It will be subject to periodic update so as to reflect ongoing development of schemes.
